Royal Scottish Academy - 200th Annual Exhibition

Dame Barbara Rae CBE RA RSA participated in the 200th Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition, held from 9 May to 14 June 2026. Celebrating the Academy's bicentenary, the exhibition brought together work by Royal Scottish Academicians and invited artists in one of Scotland's longest-running exhibitions of contemporary art. Barbara exhibited Outpost, Outpost II, and Arctic Memory.

Investiture

On 1 July 2025, Dame Barbara Rae received her insignia from His Majesty King Charles III at an Investiture held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, following her appointment as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the King's New Year Honours List 2025 for services to art.

The Investiture marked the formal recognition of Barbara's distinguished contribution to painting and printmaking over a career spanning more than five decades.

Dame Barbara Rae was pleased to exhibit in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the world's longest-running open-submission exhibition of contemporary art, held annually at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Since its foundation in 1769, the exhibition has brought together works by Royal Academicians and invited artists alongside open submissions from across the world.

Barbara exhibited the carborundum prints Ice Shards – Baffin and Night Clouds, together with the woodcuts Gentoo – Gerlache, Gentoo – Neko Harbour, and Deception Island, inspired by her journeys to the Antarctic.

Dame Barbara Rae was pleased to exhibit in Chaos and Control at the Royal Scottish Academy, a major exhibition celebrating contemporary printmaking in Scotland. Bringing together Royal Scottish Academicians and invited artists from across generations, the exhibition explored the diversity and continuing development of printmaking through a wide range of techniques and approaches.

Barbara exhibited the carborundum prints Ice Shards – Baffin and Night Clouds, both inspired by the Arctic landscape and her long-standing engagement with the polar regions.
