These photographs record Dame Barbara Rae’s journey to the Antarctic. Travelling through this remote landscape, she encountered vast fields of ice, drifting icebergs and steep, snow-covered mountains emerging through low cloud. The journey offered direct experience of a place defined by scale, cold and shifting light, where glaciers meet the sea and the landscape is continually shaped by ice and weather. The images document the environments that informed her response to the Antarctic and the work that will be shown in November at the Royal Scottish Academy.
